Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli Breaks New Ground Yet Again with the September Issue of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit Newsletter

I am pleased to announce that Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and his award-winning Medicaid Fraud Control Unit have again broken new ground in their efforts to protect Virginia's taxpayers and root out fraud, waste, and abuse in our state government.

I am referring to the September issue of the Virginia Medicaid Fraud Control Unit newsletter.  More specifically, I am referring to the section on page two of the newsletter that addresses the unique role of the qui tam whistleblower in false claims act prosecutions.
While there are a great many excellent state and federal government sources available on the topic of qui tam whistleblowers, I have always wondered why more government sources do not address the role of private whistleblowers and their lawyers.

To my knowledge, this is the first MFCU newsletter anywhere in the country that has mentioned the qui tam concept.  Most US DOJ press releases mention the relator where there is a successful recovery, and DOJ also maintains an excellent library of briefs, press releases, etc. on their main website, www.usdoj.gov .

I am planning a year-end report to cover the various areas in which General Cuccinelli has broken new ground with the Virginia Fraud Against Taxpayers Act, but it suffices at this point to say that he has done an excellent job so far with these prosecutions.  I assure you, all Virginians will benefit from his work.
