U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia Ranks in Top Five District Courts for Qui Tam Filings
I had heard it said before that the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia ranked in the top five districts for qui tam filings, but I now have located the proof.
The statistic comes from this 2006 report to Senator Grassley from the U.S. Government Accountability Office. The report itself was generated in response to two specific questions: (1) What statutory guidance and DOJ policies exist regarding the relationship between the Government and relators in prosecuting qui tam cases? and (2) What is known about DOJ's qui tam case load based on the data it collects?
The answers to these questions make for interesting reading. Hopefully, the Virginia Fraud Against Taxpayer's Act will one day be popular enough to warrant its own report.
